Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 3. Representations

Let gg be a Lie algebra over KK and MiM_i a gg-module (1≤i≤n1 \leq i \leq n). On the tensor product M1⊗KM2⊗⋯⊗MnM_1 \otimes_K M_2 \otimes \cdots \otimes M_n, there exists one and only one gg-module structure such that

xM⋅(m1⊗⋯⊗mm)=∑t=1nm1⊗⋯⊗(xMt⋅mi)⊗⋯⊗mn x_M \cdot (m_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes m_m) = \sum_{t=1}^n m_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes (x_{M_t} \cdot m_i) \otimes \cdots \otimes m_n

for all x∈g,m1∈M1,…,mn∈Mnx \in g, m_1 \in M_1, \ldots, m_n \in M_n.

The corresponding representation is called the tensor product of the given representations of gg on the MiM_i.

In particular, if MM is a gg-module, Proposition 2 defines a gg-module structure on each Mp=⨂pMM_p = \bigotimes^p M and hence on the tensor algebra TT of MM.

Formula (3) shows that, for all x∈g,xTx \in g, x_T is the unique derivation of the algebra TT which extends xMx_M. We know (§ 2, no. 8) that xTx_T defines on passing to the quotient a derivation of the symmetric algebra SS of MM. Hence SS can be considered as a quotient gg-module of TT and the xSx_S are derivations of SS.

Still more particularly, consider gg as a gg-module by means of the adjoint representation of gg. Let UU be the enveloping algebra of gg. By Proposition 7 of § 2, xMx_M defines on passing to the quotients a derivation of UU which is just the inner derivation defined by σ(x)\sigma(x) (σ\sigma denoting the canonical mapping of gg into UU). Then UU can be considered as a quotient gg-module of TT. If KK is a field of characteristic 0, the canonical isomorphism of SS onto UU is a gg-module isomorphism (§ 2, no. 8).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
