Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 5. Solvable Lie algebras

Let gg be a solvable Lie algebra; suppose that KK is algebraically closed. Let MM be a gg-module of finite dimension over KK and let (Mi)0≤i≤r(M_i)_{0 \leq i \leq r} be a Jordan-Hölder series of MM. Then Mi−1/MiM_{i-1}/M_i is of dimension 1 over KK for 1≤i≤r1 \leq i \leq r and, for all x∈gx \in g, xMi−1/Mi=λi(x)⋅1x_{M_{i-1}/M_i} = \lambda_i(x) \cdot 1, where λi\lambda_i is a linear form on gg which is zero on Dg\mathscr{D}g. In particular, every simple gg-module of finite dimension over KK is in fact of dimension 1.

Let ρi\rho_i be the representation of gg on Mi−1/MiM_{i-1}/M_i. The associative algebra LiL_i generated by 1 and ρi(g)\rho_i(g) is a field, a finite extension of KK and therefore equal to KK; and Mi−1/MiM_{i-1}/M_i is a simple LiL_i-module, whence dim⁡Mi−1/Mi=1\dim M_{i-1}/M_i = 1. The rest of the corollary is obvious.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
