Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let gg be a semi-simple Lie algebra. The adjoint representation of gg is semi-simple. Every ideal and every quotient algebra of gg is semi-simple.

Let aa be an ideal of gg. The orthogonal bb of aa in gg with respect to the Killing form is an ideal of gg and a∩ba \cap b is a commutative ideal (§3§ 3, no. 6, Proposition 7) and hence zero. Hence bb is supplementary to aa in gg. Moreover, as the Killing form of gg is non-degenerate, so are its restrictions to aa and bb (Algebra, Chapter IX, §4§ 4, no. 1, Corollary to Proposition 1) and hence aa and bb are semi-simple (no. 1, Theorem 1 and §3§ 3, no. 6, Proposition 9).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
