Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let g be a semi-simple Lie algebra, ρ\rho a linear representation of g on a finite-dimensional vector space V and W a subspace of V of codimension 1 such that ρ(x)(V)⊂W\rho(x)(V) \subset W for all x∈gx \in g. Then there exists a supplementary line of W which is stable under ρ(g)\rho(g).

For all x∈gx \in g let σ(x)\sigma(x) be the restriction of ρ(x)\rho(x) to W. Suppose first that σ\sigma is simple. If σ=0\sigma = 0, then ρ(x)ρ(y)=0\rho(x)\rho(y) = 0 for all x,yx, y in gg, hence ρ(g)=ρ(Dg)={0}\rho(g) = \rho(\mathscr{D}g) = \{0\} and our assertion is obvious. If σ≠0\sigma \neq 0, let n be the kernel of σ\sigma and let m be a supplementary ideal of n in gg (Lemma 1); then m≠{0}m \neq \{0\} and the restriction of σ\sigma to m is faithful; the restriction to m of the bilinear form associated with σ\sigma is non-degenerate (Proposition 1) and hence the Casimir element c associated with m and σ\sigma can be formed. By Proposition 12 of § 3, no. 7, σ(c)\sigma(c) is an automorphism of W. On the other hand, ρ(c)(V)⊂W\rho(c)(V) \subset W. Hence the kernel Z of ρ(c)\rho(c) is a supplementary line of W; since c belongs to the centre of the enveloping algebra of gg, ρ(c)\rho(c) is permutable with ρ(x)\rho(x) for all x∈gx \in g and hence Z is stable under ρ(g)\rho(g).

In the general case we argue by induction on the dimension of V. Let T be a minimal non-zero stable subspace of W. Let ρ′\rho' be the quotient representation on V′=V/TV' = V/T. Then, for all x∈gx \in g, ρ′(x)(V′)⊂W′\rho'(x)(V') \subset W', where W′=W/TW' = W/T is of codimension 1 in V′V'. By the induction hypothesis there exists a line Z′Z' which is supplementary to W′W' and stable under ρ′(g)\rho'(g). Its inverse image Z in V is stable under ρ(g)\rho(g), contains T as subspace of codimension 1, Z∩W=TZ \cap W = T, and hence ρ(x)(Z)⊂T\rho(x)(Z) \subset T for all x∈gx \in g. By what was proved above, there exists a supplementary line of T in Z which is stable under ρ(g)\rho(g); this line is supplementary to W in V, which completes the proof.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
