Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 7. Ado’s Theorem

Let g=g′+hg = g' + h be a Lie algebra which is the sum of an ideal g′g' and a subalgebra hh. Let σ\sigma be a finite-dimensional representation of gg. Suppose that σ(x)\sigma(x) is nilpotent for all x∈g′x \in g' and all x∈hx \in h. Then σ(x)\sigma(x) is nilpotent for all x∈gx \in g.

Passing to the quotient by the kernel of σ\sigma, σ\sigma may be assumed to be faithful. Then g′g' and hh are nilpotent and hence gg, which is an extension of a quotient of hh by g′g', is solvable. Then hh and g′g' are contained in the largest nilpotency ideal of σ\sigma (§ 5, no. 3, Corollary 6 to Theorem 1).

For an improvement of Theorem 1, cf. Exercise 4.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
