Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter V, § 3. Groups of displacements generated by reflections

Let a∈Ea \in E. The following conditions are equivalent: (i) We have W=Wa.LW = W_a.L; (ii) The restriction of the homomorphism UU to WaW_a is an isomorphism from WaW_a to U(W)U(W); (iii) For every hyperplane H∈HH \in \mathfrak{H}, there exists a hyperplane H′∈HH' \in \mathfrak{H} parallel to HH and such that a∈H′a \in H'.

It is clear that (i) ⇔\Leftrightarrow (ii), since LL is the kernel of UU and L∩Wa={1}L \cap W_a = \{1\}.

Assume (i) and let H∈HH \in \mathfrak{H}; then sH∈Wa.Ls_H \in W_a.L so there exists a vector t∈Λt \in \Lambda such that a=sH(a)+ta = s_H(a) + t; the vector tt is orthogonal to HH, and if H′=H+12tH' = H + \frac{1}{2} t then sH′(x)=sH(x)+ts_{H'}(x) = s_H(x) + t for all x∈Ex \in E (cf. § 2, no. 4, Prop. 5). Since t∈Λt \in \Lambda and sH∈Ws_H \in W, we have sH′∈Ws_{H'} \in W, and so H′∈HH' \in \mathfrak{H}; we also have a=sH′(a)a = s_{H'}(a), and so a∈H′a \in H'. Thus, (i) implies (iii).

Assume (iii). Let H∈HH \in \mathfrak{H}; take H′H' as in (iii). Then sH′(a)=as_{H'}(a) = a, so sH′∈Was_{H'} \in W_a; since HH is parallel to H′H', the element w=sH′sHw = s_{H'} s_H of WW is a translation (§ 2, no. 4, Prop. 5), so w∈Lw \in L; then sH=sH′w∈Wa.Ls_H = s_{H'} w \in W_a . L. Since WW is generated by the family (sH)H∈H(s_H)_{H \in \mathfrak{H}}, it follows that W=Wa.LW = W_a . L and hence (iii) implies (i).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
