Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VI, § 1. Root systems

Let α\alpha and β\beta be two roots.

(i) If (α∣β)>0(\alpha|\beta) > 0, α−β\alpha - \beta is a root unless α=β\alpha = \beta. (ii) If (α∣β)<0(\alpha|\beta) < 0, α+β\alpha + \beta is a root unless α=−β\alpha = -\beta. (iii) If α−β∉R∪{0}\alpha - \beta \notin \mathbf{R} \cup \{0\} and α+β∉R∪{0}\alpha + \beta \notin \mathbf{R} \cup \{0\}, then (α∣β)=0(\alpha|\beta) = 0.

Assertions (i) and (ii) follow from Th. 1 and formula (7) of no. 1. Assertion (iii) follows from (i) and (ii).

It is possible that α+β∈R\alpha + \beta \in \mathbf{R}, (α∣β)=0(\alpha|\beta) = 0 (cf. Plate X, System B_2). When α−β∉R∪{0}\alpha - \beta \notin \mathbf{R} \cup \{0\} and α+β∉R∪{0}\alpha + \beta \notin \mathbf{R} \cup \{0\}, α\alpha and β\beta are said to be strongly orthogonal.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
