General Topology, chapter I, § 9. Compact spaces and locally compact spaces

Let (Xα,fαβ)(X_\alpha, f_{\alpha\beta}) and (Xα′,fαβ′)(X'_\alpha, f'_{\alpha\beta}) be two inverse systems of topological spaces indexed by the same directed set II, and let (uα)(u_\alpha) be an inverse system of mappings uα:Xα→Xα′u_\alpha : X_\alpha \to X'_\alpha. Let X=lim←⁡XαX = \varprojlim X_\alpha, X′=lim←⁡Xα′X' = \varprojlim X'_\alpha, u=lim←⁡uαu = \varprojlim u_\alpha. Then: a) If x′=(xα′)∈X′x' = (x'_\alpha) \in X' is such that u′‾α−1(xα′)\overline{u'}_{\alpha}^{-1}(x'_\alpha) is compact and non-empty for each α∈I\alpha \in I, then u‾−1(x′)\overline{u}^{-1}(x') is compact and non-empty.

b) If the XαX_\alpha are compact, the Xα′X'_\alpha Hausdorff and the uαu_\alpha surjective and continuous, then uu is surjective.

Let LαL_\alpha denote u‾α−1(xα′)\overline{u}_\alpha^{-1}(x'_\alpha); then clearly the LαL_\alpha form an inverse system of topological spaces (with the restrictions of the fαβf_{\alpha\beta} as maps) and u‾−1(x′=L)\overline{u}^{-1}(x' = L) is the inverse limit of the LαL_\alpha; assertion a) therefore follows from Proposition 8. Assertion b) is an immediate consequence, in view of Proposition 3 of no. 3.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
