General Topology, chapter III, § 2. Subgroups, quotient groups, homomorphisms homogeneous spaces, product groups

In a topological group GG, the component KK of the identity element ee is a closed normal subgroup. The component of any point x∈Gx \in G is the coset x.K=K.xx.K = K.x.

If a∈Ka \in K, then a−1Ka^{-1}K is connected and contains ee; hence K−1K⊂KK^{-1}K \subset K, which shows that KK is a subgroup of GG. This subgroup is invariant under all automorphisms of GG, and in particular under all inner automorphisms, therefore KK is normal in GG; also KK is closed (Chapter I, , no. 5, Proposition 9). Finally, the left translation y→xyy \to xy is a homeomorphism of GG which sends ee to xx, and hence the component of xx is x.Kx.K

The component of the identity element ee of GG is called the identity component of GG.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
