General Topology, chapter III, § 7. Inverse limits of topological groups and rings
Let be an inverse system of topological groups which satisfies the hypotheses of Proposition 5; let be an inverse system of topological groups, and for each let be a surjective strict morphism with compact kernel, such that the from an inverse system of mappings. Then is a strict morphism of onto , and its kernel is compact.
Let be the kernel of . is then the kernel of the surjective strict morphism ; since is isomorphic to (§ 2, no. 7, Proposition 20), is a compact normal subgroup of (§ 4, no. 1, Corollary 2 to Proposition 2). The kernel of is the intersection of the . Let denote the canonical mapping ; then we can write , where is a strict morphism of onto , whose kernel is . Since the intersection of the is the identity element of , and since the form a filter base and are compact, this filter base converges to the identity element of (Chapter I, § 9, no. 1, Corollary to Theorem 1). Proposition 2 of no. 3 then shows that is an isomorphism of onto ; it follows that is a strict morphism of onto , with kernel . But it is clear that , and thus the corollary is proved.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
