General Topology, chapter VI, § 3. Real projective spaces

The projective space PnP_n is compact and connected, and is homeomorphic to the quotient of the sphere SnS_n by the equivalence relation induced on the sphere by Δn\Delta_n.

Let Δn′\Delta'_n be the equivalence relation induced on SnS_n by Δn\Delta_n (the equivalence classes of Δn′\Delta'_n are pairs of diametrically opposite points of SnS_n). The mapping x→x/∣∣x∣∣x \to x/||x|| of Rn+1∗\mathbf{R}_{n+1}^* onto SnS_n is continuous, hence (Lemma 2) PnP_n is homeomorphic to Sn/Δn′S_n / \Delta'_n. Since SnS_n is compact and connected, every Hausdorff quotient space of SnS_n is also compact and connected (Chapter I, § 9, no. 4, Theorem 2, Corollary 1; § 11, no. 3, Proposition 7).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
