Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VII, § 2. Cartan subalgebras and regular elements of a Lie algebra

Let f:g→g′f:\mathfrak{g}\rightarrow \mathfrak{g}' be a surjective homomorphism of Lie algebras. If h\mathfrak{h} is a Cartan subalgebra of g,f(h)\mathfrak{g},f(\mathfrak{h}) is a Cartan subalgebra of g′\mathfrak{g}'.

Indeed, f(h)f(\mathfrak{h}) is a nilpotent subalgebra of g′\mathfrak{g}'. On the other hand, consider the representation x→x \rightarrow ad f(x)f(x) of h\mathfrak{h} on g′\mathfrak{g}'. By Prop. 9 (iv) of §1, no. 3, f(g0(h))=g′0(h)f(\mathfrak{g}^0(\mathfrak{h})) ={\mathfrak{g}'}^0(\mathfrak{h}). Now g0(h)=h\mathfrak{g}^0(\mathfrak{h}) =\mathfrak{h}, and on the other hand it is clear that g′0(h)=g′0(f(h)){\mathfrak{g}'}^0(\mathfrak{h}) ={\mathfrak{g}'}^0(f(\mathfrak{h})). Hence, f(h)=g′0(f(h))f(\mathfrak{h}) ={\mathfrak{g}'}^0(f(\mathfrak{h})) and it suffices to apply Prop. 4.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
