Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 5. Conjugacy classes

Put n=n= dim G. There exists a compact real-analytic manifold V of dimension n−3n-3 and an analytic map φ:V→G\varphi : V\rightarrow G whose image is G -- GrG_r.

Let α∈R(G,T)\alpha \in R(G,T); put Vα=(G/V_{\alpha}= (G/Z(Kerα\alpha ))×\times (Kerα\alpha ), and let φα\varphi_{\alpha} be the morphism from VαV_{\alpha} to G such that, for all g∈Gg\in G and all t∈t\in Ker α\alpha, we have φα(g‾,t)=gtg−1\varphi_{\alpha}(\overline{g}, t) =gtg^{-1} (we denote by g‾\overline{g} the coset of gg modulo Z(Kerα\alpha )). Then VαV_{\alpha} is a compact real-analytic manifold of dimension

dim Vα=V_{\alpha}= dim G−G- dim Z(Ker α\alpha ) ++ dim Kerα\alpha

=n−=n- (dim T + 2) + (dim T−1T-1) =n−3=n-3

(§4, no. 5, Th. 11);φα;\varphi_{\alpha} is a morphism of real-analytic manifolds, and the image of φα\varphi_{\alpha} consists of the elements of G conjugate to an element of Ker α\alpha. It now suffices to take V to be the sum of the manifolds VαV_{\alpha}, and φ\varphi to be the morphism inducing φα\varphi_{\alpha} on each VαV_{\alpha}.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
