Integration, chapter VIII, § 4. Convolution of measures and functions
Let be a locally compact group, a Haar measure on , a separable Banach space, and a linear representation of in such that for all . Let be a total sequence in , and let be a dense sequence in the unit ball of the dual of , equipped with the weak topology. Assume that the functions on are -measurable. Then is a continuous linear representation.
Let us first show that for every , the scalar functions
are -measurable; we may restrict ourselves to the case that , and, since is metrizable for the weak topology (TVS, III, §3, No. 4, Cor. 2 of Prop. 6), there exists a subsequence of that converges weakly to ; the function
is thus the limit of a sequence of -measurable functions, whence our assertion. It follows that the mapping of into is -measurable for every (Ch. IV, §5, No. 5, Prop. 10). On the other hand, there exists a sequence of elements of , linear combinations of the , that is dense in the unit ball of . For every , , therefore is measurable. Let be a compact subset of and let . There exists a compact subset of such that and such that the restrictions to of the functions and are continuous. Then the for are equicontinuous, and the topology of pointwise convergence induces on the topology of pointwise convergence in the set of (TVS, III, §3, No. 4, Prop. 5). Consequently the mapping of into is continuous. It then suffices to apply Cor. 1.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
