Integration, chapter IX, § 2. Operations on measures

— Let ff be a ν\nu-measurable positive function defined on X=S×TX = S \times T. Assume that ff is ν\nu-moderated (resp. that μ\mu is moderated). Then: a) The set NN of s∈Ss \in S such that the function fs:t↦f(s,t)f_s : t \mapsto f(s, t) is not μ\mu-measurable is negligible (resp. locally negligible) for λ\lambda. b) The mapping s↦∫∙f(s,t) dμ(t)s \mapsto \int^\bullet f(s, t) \, d\mu(t) is λ\lambda-measurable, and

∬X∙f(s,t) dν(s,t)=∫S∙dλ(s)∫T∙f(s,t) dμ(t). \iint_X^\bullet f(s, t) \, d\nu(s, t) = \int_S^\bullet d\lambda(s) \int_T^\bullet f(s, t) \, d\mu(t).

We begin by establishing b) when ff is ν\nu-moderated. By Lemma 2, this part of the statement is valid when there exists a compact subset LL of TT such that ff is zero outside S×LS \times L; for, in this case If=IfL′I_f = I_f^{L'} for every compact subset L′L' of TT containing LL, and formula (11) reduces to (6). In particular, b) is established for a function ff that is zero outside a compact subset of S×TS \times T. On the other hand, Cor. 1 of Prop. 11 implies that b) is true when ff is ν\nu-negligible. Since every ν\nu-moderated function is the sum of a ν\nu-negligible function and a sequence of functions with compact support (§ 1, No. 9, Cor. 3 of Prop. 14), the assertion b) is true when ff is ν\nu-moderated.

Similarly, the assertion b) is obvious when μ\mu is carried by a compact subset LL of TT (Lemma 2). Suppose that μ\mu is moderated; then there exists a sequence (μn)n∈N(\mu_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}} of measures on TT with compact support, such that μ=∑nμn\mu = \sum_n \mu_n (§ 1, No. 9, Cor. 5 of Prop. 14), whence ν=∑nλ⊗μn\nu = \sum_n \lambda \otimes \mu_n (No. 5, Cor. 3 of Prop. 10). The assertion b), being valid for each of the measures νn=λ⊗μn\nu_n = \lambda \otimes \mu_n, is also valid for ν=∑nνn\nu = \sum_n \nu_n.

Let us prove a); denote by NN the set of s∈Ss \in S such that fsf_s is not μ\mu-measurable; for every compact subset LL of TT, similarly denote by NLN_L the set of s∈Ss \in S such that fsφLf_s \varphi_L is not μ\mu-measurable. If KK and LL are compact sets in SS and TT respectively, then fK×Lf_{K \times L} is measurable with respect to the measure νK×L=λK⊗μL\nu_{K \times L} = \lambda_K \otimes \mu_L, and Prop. 2 of Ch. V, § 8, No. 2 shows that the set NLN_L is locally negligible for λK\lambda_K; since KK is arbitrary, NLN_L is locally λ\lambda-negligible.

Suppose that ff is zero outside a compact set of the form K×LK \times L; then N=NLN = N_L, and NN is contained in KK; it follows that NN is λ\lambda-negligible. Similarly, if ff is ν\nu-negligible, Cor. 2 of Prop. 11 implies that NN is λ\lambda-negligible. The case that ff is ν\nu-moderated can then be treated as above, on combining the preceding two cases.

Suppose that μ\mu is carried by a compact subset LL of TT; then N=NLN = N_L again, therefore NN is locally λ\lambda-negligible. Since every moderated measure is the sum of a sequence of measures with compact support (§1§ 1, No. 9, Cor. 5 of Prop. 14), this result extends at once to the case that μ\mu is moderated, on using Prop. 8 of §1§ 1, No. 7.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
