General Topology, chapter VI, § 3. Real projective spaces

The projective space PnP_n is Hausdorff.

We start by showing that the relation Δn\Delta_n is open (Chapter I, § 5, no. 2). Let AA be an open set in Rn+1∗\mathbf{R}_{n+1}^*; to saturate AA with respect to Δn\Delta_n we have to take the union of the sets tAtA homothetic to AA, as tt runs through the set of real numbers ≠0\neq 0; since each of these sets is open, so is their union.

By Proposition 8 of Chapter I, § 8, no. 3, the proposition will be proved if we show that the subset MM of Rn+1∗×Rn+1∗\mathbf{R}_{n+1}^* \times \mathbf{R}_{n+1}^* defined by the relation Δn\Delta_n is closed. Let then (x,y)(x, y) be a point of Rn+1∗×Rn+1∗\mathbf{R}_{n+1}^* \times \mathbf{R}_{n+1}^* lying in the closure of MM. If x=(xi)x = (x_i), there is an index ii such that xi≠0x_i \neq 0; hence there is a neighbourhood VV of (x,y)(x, y) such that for every point (x′,y′)∈M∩V(x', y') \in M \cap V the ith coordinate xi′x'_i of x′x' is not 0. As (x′,y′)(x', y') tends to (x,y)(x, y) while remaining in MM, yi′x′i−1y'_i {x'}^{-1}_i tends to t=yixi−1t = y_i x_i^{-1}; since y′=(yi′x′i−1)x′y' = (y'_i {x'}^{-1}_i) x', we see by passing to the limit that y=xy = x, which shows that (x,y)∈M(x, y) \in M.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
