Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 3. m-adic topologies on Noetherian rings

Let AA be a commutative Noetherian ring and mm an ideal of AA; let AA be given the mm-adic topology. For A^\hat{A} to be a faithfully flat AA-module, it is necessary and sufficient that AA be a Zariski ring.

For every finitely generated AA-module MM, the canonical mapping M→M⊗AA^M \to M \otimes_A \hat{A} is identified with the canonical mapping M→M^M \to \hat{M} from MM to its Hausdorff completion with respect to the mm-adic topology (no. 4, Theorem 3) and the kernel of this mapping is then the closure of {0}\{0\} in MM with respect to this topology. As we already know that A^\hat{A} is a flat AA-module (no. 4, Theorem 3), the proposition follows from the characterization of faithfully flat modules (Chapter I, § 3, no. 1, Proposition 1 (b)) and the characterization of Zariski rings (no. 3, Proposition 6).

If AA is a Zariski ring and EE is a finitely generated AA-module, we may (by virtue of Proposition 9) identify EE with a subset of E^\hat{E} by means of the canonical mapping jE:E→E^j_E : E \to \hat{E}. With this identification:

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
