Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

Let A,BA, B be two rings, ρ:B→A\rho : B \to A a ring homomorphism and EE an AA-module. Let (αλ)λ∈L(\alpha_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} be a generating system (resp. free family of elements, basis) of AA considered as a left BB-module. Let (aμ)μ∈M(a_\mu)_{\mu \in M} be a generating system (resp. free family of elements, basis) of the AA-module EE. Then (αλaμ)(λ,μ)∈L×M(\alpha_\lambda a_\mu)_{(\lambda, \mu) \in L \times M} is a generating system (resp. (when ρ\rho is injective) free family of elements, basis) of the BB-module ρ∗(E)\rho_*(E).

If x=∑μ∈Mγμaμx = \sum_{\mu \in M} \gamma_\mu a_\mu, where γμ∈A\gamma_\mu \in A and (αλ)(\alpha_\lambda) is a generating system of AA, we may write γμ=∑λ∈Lρ(βλμ)αλ\gamma_\mu = \sum_{\lambda \in L} \rho(\beta_{\lambda \mu}) \alpha_\lambda, with βλμ∈B\beta_{\lambda \mu} \in B, for all μ∈M\mu \in M, whence x=∑λ,μρ(βλμ)αλaμx = \sum_{\lambda, \mu} \rho(\beta_{\lambda \mu}) \alpha_\lambda a_\mu. On the other hand, if (αλ)(\alpha_\lambda) and (aμ)(a_\mu) are free families, a relation ∑λ,μρ(βλμ)αλaμ=0\sum_{\lambda, \mu} \rho(\beta_{\lambda \mu}) \alpha_\lambda a_\mu = 0, with βλμ∈B\beta_{\lambda \mu} \in B, may be written ∑μ∈M(∑λ∈Lρ(βλμ)αλ)aμ=0\sum_{\mu \in M} \left( \sum_{\lambda \in L} \rho(\beta_{\lambda \mu}) \alpha_\lambda \right) a_\mu = 0; it thus implies ∑λ∈Lρ(βλμ)αλ=0\sum_{\lambda \in L} \rho(\beta_{\lambda \mu}) \alpha_\lambda = 0 for all μ∈M\mu \in M and therefore βλμ=0\beta_{\lambda \mu} = 0 for all λ,μ\lambda, \mu if ρ\rho is injective.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
