General Topology, chapter III, § 3. Uniform structures on groups
Let be a topological group, let be a complete Hausdorff topological group, and let (resp. ) be a dense subgroup of (resp. ). Then every continuous homomorphism of into can be uniquely extended to a continuous homomorphism of into . Furthermore, if is Hausdorff and complete, and if is an isomorphism of onto , then is an isomorphism of onto .
is uniformly continuous with respect to the right uniformities of and (no. 1, Proposition 3), hence admits a unique extension to a mapping of into which is uniformly continuous with respect to the right uniformities of these groups (Chapter II, § 3, no. 6, Theorem 2). Moreover, by virtue of the principle of extension of identities (Chapter I, § 8, no. 1, Corollary 1 to Proposition 2), is a homomorphism of into , whence the first assertion of the Proposition. To prove the second assertion, it is enough to consider the isomorphism of onto , which is the inverse of , and its extension to a continuous homomorphism of into ; by reason of the uniqueness of the extension, and are the identity mappings of and respectively, and therefore (Set Theory, R, § 2, no. 12) is bijective.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
