Algebra, chapter V, § 9. Conjugate elements and quasi-Galois extensions

— Let E be an extension of K contained in Ω\Omega and u a K-homomorphism of E into Ω\Omega.

a) If u maps E into E, u induces a K-automorphism of E.

b) There exists a K-automorphism v of Ω\Omega extending u.

Suppose that u(E)⊂Eu(E) \subset E; to prove a) it is enough to show that u(E)=Eu(E) = E. Let x be an element of E, f the minimal polynomial of x over K and Φ\Phi the set of roots of fin E. The set Φ\Phi is finite, the mapping u of E into E is injective and we have u(Φ)⊂Φu(\Phi) \subset \Phi; therefore u(Φ)=Φu(\Phi) = \Phi, whence x∈u(Φ)⊂u(E)x \in u(\Phi) \subset u(E); this shows that E=u(E)E = u(E).

It is clear that Ω\Omega is an algebraic closure of E and of u(E)u(E); therefore (V, p. 23, Cor.), the isomorphism u of E onto u(E)u(E) extends to an isomorphism v of Ω\Omega onto Ω\Omega.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
